I'm still wondering about the TVs though. It used to be the case that if you had a TV that was broken, you still needed a licence for it, so a non-digital TV would still need a licence by those rules maybe?

That's not the case with a broken set. The set has always had to be able to receive a TV signal.

Is there analogue TV any longer?

I think it was that lots of people tried to get around not paying for a TV licence saying that they only use their TVs for watching Videos, The authorities soon saw through that..

According to the bumph about digitalisation ALL TVs were supposed to be capable of receiving the new signals but this proved to be untrue about my set. It's sat in the corner for months playing the odd video and unplugged from the (useless) aerial cable........I'll go all John Cleese about it in a minute .........'THIS TV SET IS DECEASED!'
All the info I've read says that if you do not watch/access TV as it is broadcast you do not need a licence. If this means that I have to prove I don't then they will have to prove that I do (which I don't). If they have the technology it will show that I don't. They've had my continuous licence fee since about 1979. If they think it's worth prosecuting good luck to them......I have good friends in journalistic places

I do remember oil rig workers complaining that they had to buy a licence, even though they lived far too far away to get signal.

Come to think of it, they can't play DVDs either... life must be a bit dull for them.

Got into Robot Combat League. actually kind of interesting. the first half of the first ep drags a bit as they are introducing the teams and pairing up the teams with their respective robots but once it got into the match I found myself really getting into it. and luckily eps after have two matches per ep instead of just one so they are paced much better.

Basically, think of it like if could see how the sport in the Hugh Jackman film Real Steel got started this is pretty much what it would be.

Watched Quartet, beautiful movie, felt like crying in the end... I wish I could retire in a home like that when I get old...
