No, it's not a scam, although they seem to want a lot of money for this project. :)

They did something like this for the 2 fan web-movies The Hunt for Gollum and Born of Hope (both prequels for the LotR). The actors and crew and production types are professionals or 'gifted amateurs' and donate their spare time services gratis or for a very small sum, with other fans just donating for the production costs. this looks to be the same kind of thing. :)

Hope the venture goes as well for this :D

They've been at this project for several years now. I know a lot of the people on the Cunning Artificer's site have donated to it. :)

Definitely not a scam. If you watch the video on the site Terry says he thinks that lots of people donating a small amount of money is a very good way to get the film financed.

Daniel Knight has just created a new $4 pledge level. He got the inspiration after reading the latest issue of Discworld Monthly where I suggested that if everyone on the mailing list pledged the price of a pint of beer they would get all the funding the needed. So there is now the Jason Anthony Discworld Monthly pledge of $4 that gets you a button badge of either Cohen, Mica or The Horse.
