RIP Channel One

Postby Bouncy Castle » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:54 pm

Yesterday (Monday 31st Jan) was the final day of the Freeview channel known as Channel One (formerly known as Virgin1).

At a sweep, I've lost about six or seven of my regular shows.

Thanks a bunch Mr Branson. Thanks a chuffing bunch.

I agree Bouncy. I spent many an afternoon watching their re-run of Star Treks before going to work. Was it actually Branson tho, or was it someone at Freeview who decided to replace it with Quest (Freeview 46)? :(

Quest has been going a while now.

I think Murdoch bought Ch1 from Branson, then decided that the content was too similar to Living, so they've blitzed Ch1 and moved most of it's content to Living or other Sky channels.

I'm soooooo p****d off - that's about 60 per cent of my weekly shows down the Swanny.

Monday night was the last transmission of Channel One.

All the great shows they gave us are now flying in the wind of Mr Murdoch's Sky channels.

How is this allowed?

Sorry, I meant "Challenge" not "Quest". I'm pretty certain I wasn't able to get that one before today. Its little consolation but Challenge does show the ridiculously amusing Takeshi's Castle.

I can't say I've ever been a fan of Virgin 1. I was a Virgin customer when they had their little spat with Sky and dropped Sky 1 from their listings. They then replaced Sky 1 with Virgin 1 which was to my mind a pale imitator. So I never really watched it. Hadn't noticed it was go to be honest.

I too am sad at the loss of Star Trek. All is not lost though. CBS Action airs ST:DS9 and TOS every day and Sky Living seem to have taken on Voyager I think. No TNG though :(
