Who in the world thought that David Boreanaz would make a good Sam Vimes?

That's actually pretty depressing. There are some obviously jokey ones such as David Prowse (Darth Vader) playing Cuddy and Danny DeVito as Carrot, but some of them I think were actually serious.

Someone seems to be a Jim Carrey fan as he's mentioned for almost all the roles.

Oddly enough Sir David Jason doesn't appear as much as one might imagine.

In my experience casting threads often cause arguements on message boards.

I once roleplayed a 'Vetinaria' character (on a Tolkien site) and that was a hoot as we (a friend was playing the Bursar) were trying to work out 'world swaps' principally for Elves as a kind of reality TV/tourism spoof - Discworld would of course have had the best end of the deal as their Elves aren't at all nice
