i think vimes is one of the best thought out characters. the relationship between him and lord Lord Vetinari is great.
he has always thought of himself as a man of the street. haveing to fight for everything. but now finds himself one of the most powerfull people in the city. it is his unease with this i love about him.

as for the watch well i love all of them. even Mr A.E pessimel.

but each to there own. that is the great thing about diskworld. it is a world.

as for the women mentiond in the first post. thank God she didnt read wee free men first..........

Yesterday I was in the bookshop and I overheard( ) this woman talking to the owner about Discworld
She told him that she had read all the ''Witch'' books and that she started reading the ''Watch'' one and she said they were really boring and that they have put her off reading the rest of the series

I have absoluteley no idea how anyone could hate the Watch so much that it put her off reading the rest of the series

Probably one of those pagan types who had been recommended the witch books by her local shaman and expected the watch to be more of the same.....

Oh dear lord don't get me started on those people. If you don't have any gods then it's not a religion "the feminine aspect" or whatever doesn't count, the only thing they worship is their own inflated sense of self importance.

But, but, the witch books basically make a habit of making fun of those people.

Poe's Law.
Frankly every good writer could go and write a book filled to the brim with things that should make it obvious that a plot, character, etc is not to be taken serious/is mocking something (Bad writers do that on purpose to, but because they think they write something originally and grand). There still would be people to declare said plot/character/etc the best he ever wrote and that they can really feel with the character because it is just like them, or that the plot is straight out of their life etc.
