Wordcount question

Postby Thomas » Sun Nov 28, 2010 10:40 pm

Hi there, I'm a man making a list. That's what men do when our wives go to bed, or so I tell myself. It's very normal

I'm not really making a list, the list already exists. It's the BBC's 'Big Read' top 200 thing that they did back in 2003. I'm just trying to re-arrange it in ascending order of wordcount.

Pointless, perhaps, but at least such an arrangement will mean Eric Carle's 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' can take it's rightful spot at #1 and in it's former position (#199) can go War and Peace.

So my plan is to find out the wordcounts for all these books. That's what I'm doing here, noising up the Discworld experts. Wondering if any of you fine people can help me out with the wordcount of the many Pratchett novels that are in the top 200.

That is...

Good Omens
Guards! Guards!
The Colour of Magic
Small Gods
Reaper Man
Wyrd Sisters
Men at Arms
Soul Music
Theif of Time
The Fifth Elephant
The Truth
Witches Abroad

Any help, muchly appreciated.

Welcome to the site, Thomas! I make lists and create maps.

As to the word count - I'm guessing this is where one of those electronic book thingies comes in handy. Presumably, they'll have a word count on there somewhere. :)
Look, you've got it all wrong! You don't NEED to follow ME, You don't NEED to follow ANYBODY! You've got to think for your selves! You're ALL individuals!
Yes! We're all individuals!

Sit down and count every single word in each book.
