Top 5 Favourites

Postby John1 » Wed Aug 04, 2010 6:39 pm

I was wondering what are your top five favourite Discworld novels and why you like them. Obviously I like them all but here are my top 5 favourites.

1. Reaperman, it has Wizards, Death, and Reg Shoe.

2. Nightwatch, it has City Watch, Time Travel and Lu Tze.

3. Witches Abroad, it has Fariy Tales and Witches.

4. The Last Continent, this one has Aussie, Rincewind and Wizards.

5. Interesting Times, it has Rincewind, Cohen and it was fun in certain parts of it.

If you can't name your top 5, how about your top 3? I was originally going to ask what your top 10 were but some members might find it hard to name their top 10.

In no particular order;
Small Gods: because of the way it questions religious 'values'.
Reaper Man: because Death is one of my favourite characters.
Jingo: because I consider it one of the best anti-war/anti-racism books written.
Guards! Guards!: because it's the first in the 'Guards' series, and for the 'Dirty Harry' references.
Wyrd Sisters: because it's the first in the 'Witches' series (with Nanny and Magrat) and for the parody of Shakespeare.
Nothing too profound for the reasons, I'm afraid, and my list does tend to change from time to time depending on my mood. :D

Can't comment yet as I am only as far as The Truth at the moment.

Favourite so far is MEn at Arms, I think, so hard to choose, sometimes feels like one epic long book as I've been reading them one after the other since CoM. :D

In no particular order:

Night Watch
Guards! Guards!
Hogfather
Jingo
Going Postal

I've just realised I have a possibly unhealthy obsession with the Watch...

Tough one indeed.

1 - Reaper Man - Simply one of the best book ever written.
2 - Guards! Guards! & Men at arms
3 - Going Postal - Moist is really an interesting character and the story is hilarious.
4 - Soul Music - Susan, nuff said.
5 - Tiffany's books - Awesome read.

Voila.

And in Heather's case, there were sometimes Third Thoughts and Fourth Thoughts, although these were quite difficult to manage and sometimes led her to walk into doors
