Blind Io???

Postby Ook! » Tue Jun 22, 2010 6:30 pm

This is a really pointless question, but it's one that has been bugging me for a while...

How do people pronounce his name? Because phonetically i read Blind Y-O...

Does anyone else read it differently?

I pronouce it like the moon of Jupiter, or the nymph who was seduced by Zeus - Eye-Oh. :D

What I am curious about is why Terry named Him Io. :?

As I said - Io is one of the Jovian Moons and said to be one of the most volcanically active places in the known solar system. Huge volcanoes have been witnessed on its surface and it's reckoned that it is so active it effectively turns itself inside-out.

But Io was also a nymph, who was turned into a cow after being seduced by Zeus.

I have a feeling Terry is hiding a joke in there somewhere - but I can't imagine what.

Hi Ook!

I always thought it was like the letters "E & O".

Like Tony, I've always pronounced it eye-oh, like the moon (and the nymph-cow).
What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

me neither

I've always read that as E-O , expecially because it's written like the Italian word for 'I' , so it would be difficult for me to read it differently

 Oi! I didn't.

I always thought a Blind Eye sounded better than a Blind Eee. I also wondered if Sir Terry was trying to work a punchline with the phrase "turning a blind eye.....oh", into one of his books and then never got around to it.
