DWCON 2010 Exhibition IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Postby keith_art » Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:11 pm

DISCWORLD CONVENTION 2010 – ‘FAN-ART’ EXHIBITION*
[*the exhibition is not official, AS YET, please read on]

It has occurred to me (as I browse the forums) that, with so many fans indulging in Discworld 'Fan-art' that it would be a great idea to have an exhibition at the convention.
I, for one, appreciate the problems of getting larger works to the hotel but I would love to wander around a gallery of exclusively Discworld art.

The exhibition would not be about ability. [Please don’t feel that, “my stuff wouldn’t be good enough”] It’s all about those who show their devotion to the Discworld through the visual arts.

Amongst the ideas we’re considering are;
The work being judged by Terry, himself.
Exhibitors being able to sell their work.
Exhibitors donating their work to the DWConvention Charity Auction.
Discworld fans who prefer photography could submit Discworld related photographs…(‘classic moments’ from previous DW gatherings etc.)

SO… We're putting out feelers to see how many budding ‘fan-art’ makers there are, out there, who would be interested in showing their work at the DWCon2010,

The feasibility of this will depend on the number of potential exhibitors, in other words 'WE NEED YOU'

Please reply via this thread if you have an interest in this project. Any ideas along the lines of the proposals above are also welcome here.

I'd be pretty interested in this. Could I send something by email? All my stuff's scanned into the computer and i've got two pictures colored in Photoshop. (Okay, I'd probably do somehting extra for the convention) But I won't be able to come myself, because I live in Switzerland. But I would like to send you a picture to show :)

It was because I read comments about your art (on the discworld stamps forum) that I came here to see for myself. I have and I'm impressed!

BUT, there's no need to send anything yet. We're still trying to get the idea considered by the 2010DWConvention organisers - and that could take a while. The Chairman has other things going on right now but I'm hoping to have a good chat with him soon.
If you'd like to post an example into this thread, you're more than welcome. I'll then know where it is if I need to refer to it.

Cheers Cheery

They did comments on my art in the stamps forum? Really? Gosh! :D
I'll start working my way towards a picture like this anyway, so just tell me when you're ready. I'll probably draw the City Watch ore something like that. I hope you get through with the idea, it's great!
And could you give me the link to the comments they did? I'm very curious!

Wow! I did't know my pictures were getting on so well!
And it would be an honour for me to show Mr. Pratchett my work. I really hope they'll do the gallery. It would be awesome!

As its getting difficult to track across many threads on all the forums I'm centralising this discussion on a blog I've inventively titled http://dwcon2010exhibition.blogspot.com/

Please add your comments, queries, questions and ideas there. You can also post links to your work if you know how to [I'm a bit fuzzy on this stuff myself-lol]

I so hope one of those is in school holidays and not at the time of a course :? Would be a lot easier if I was out of apprenticeship already...
