Beautiful vacation pictures Chilli! I would have loved to make it down that way.

Here's a few from my recent trip to London. We took a cruise boat from Westminster pier to Greenwich, so most of the pictures were taken from that.

St. Pauls and the (wobbly) Millenium bridge.

Something of Gormenghast?

HMS Belfast and Tower Bridge.

The forward guns are targeted on London Gateway Services on the M1, 12 miles away. I've been trying to start a rumour that an Admiral had a particularly bad sandwich there.

A prototype marine chronometer by John Harrison, (eventual) winner of the Longitude Prize. His precision clocks which could accurately keep time on rolling ships made accurate navigation possible for the first time, reducing the length of voyages and greatly improving safety. To give you some idea how important this was, the early timepieces cost a third as much as a seagoing ship, but were still seen as worthwhile investments.

Thanks. We had the benefit of a very funny and very cockney commentary for the ride. :)

Great photos again. :D

My friends and I went to Avebury but my partially disabled mate had some difficulties so we couldn't explore properly. :(

I keep promising myself to take the boat trip as well but I always end up walking the route. Maybe one day I'll walk it and then catch the boat back from Tower Bridge to Westminster. :D

I did know that. QI, of course  .

Lovely pics, good old London.

Stand-outs are the chronometer & the Houses of Parliament.

Nice job Chilli!

Great pictures Knight. If I ever make it to London, that sounds like a great tour to take.

Thanks everyone.

I heard it years ago, we did have trivia before QI. ;) Although for some reason I thought they were aimed at South Mimms services rather than London Gateway.

One thing that struck me while passing HMS Belfast - it had a crew of something like 800 people, and very few of them would have been able see a thing most of the time. Being targeted by shells, bombs and torpedoes is bad enough, but doing so while you have almost no idea how the battle is going strikes me as worse. :(
