There's an advert on at the moment (I've seen it on 4oD) for some sort of foot care machine that makes the boast that "93% of Cosmopolitan readers" thought this item was excellent (or something like that). I thought it a bit odd that 93% had actually tried one. In the small print of the ad, it said that was based on 105 readers polled. That is quite a boast based on such a small survey.
I am not a fan of opinion polls. Firstly they exclude a huge amount of people who can't be bothered to answer poll questions and include the sort of person who makes up the answers for fun, or replies with the answers that they think will make him/her look better.
To sort of prove this point, several years ago on this site, I started a poll asking who wore glasses. If those results are to be believed, then it would appear that the majority of the population of the world wore glasses. This is clearly not the case.
Look, you've got it all wrong! You don't NEED to follow ME, You don't NEED to follow ANYBODY! You've got to think for your selves! You're ALL individuals!
Yes! We're all individuals!
