I don't give a false Email address, as such, but I do have an Email account for just this purpose. I even check it every now and again to see if there is anything interesting on offer but for the majority of the time, I just mass delete. :D

Well, I didn't suggest giving away bogus info. I'll either give it if I'm comfortable, or I won't. I can't let someone else's job security guilt me into giving out personal information if I'm not comfortable with it. No offense meant to those of you who have to deal with trying to get it from customers though! Just had to be honest. If I'm asked I'll either give it if I want to, or just say, "No thanks!"

In my original post about it I was actually talking about buying stuff online. On some sites you can't even complete the transaction without saving all of your information there with a user ID and password. That's what really irritates me. I prefer the sites that have the "check out as a guest" option. I don't need my address saved on every site I buy something from. Like Penfold, I have an email address that I'll give out if I need to give one, but don't want to deal with the junk mail.

I like rewards cards, as long as they're free! I would never opt for one you had to pay for.

I once got given a "reward" card from a stationary chain I won't say who it was but it's spelt selpats backwards. I disagreed with their T&Cs during the registration process so didn't go through with it. The next time I was there they asked if I wanted their reward card and I said no and said why.

Regarding your mother's maiden name or sibling's DoB - you don't have to give the real information - just so long as you remember what answer you did give to the question. They are just extra "security" questions. In fact you could argue that giving the real information would actually weaken the security, after all it's reasonably easy to find out a person's mother's maiden name or their place of birth, as certainly in the UK, birth records etc are in the public domain - ask a genealogist!

Yes you did, you're such a troublemaker Susanne!

Mwhahahahaha! Just kidding, it was me all along.

But I see now what you mean regarding buying online. I'm new to that, I only ever get stuff from Amazon or Fishpond. The only 'proper' precaution I've taken is the debit card I use is not linked to my bank account.

Oh no Ghost, sorry mate. Won't happen again.

I am an Abomination Unto Nuggan for upsetting Ghost.

No you're not! I wasn't upset at all. And besides, it was nice to get blamed for something I could genuinely deny.
