Solar Image - Take 2

Postby KnightOfFewWords » Thu Mar 28, 2013 9:34 pm

As I mentioned in my welcome thread, I occasionally get the chance to do some astronomy. Today, I had a go at reprocessing an image of the sun I took last year, and am quite pleased with how it's come out.

Image

(It was taken with a black and white astro-cam attached to a small hydrogen-alpha telescope, which blocks over 99% of the sun's light. This gave me a grey, blurry video, which I ran through some processing software. Finally I colourised it by adjusting the colour curves.)

Any comments welcome.

Wow! That's amazing!! :D

There's an incredible solar telescope at Kitt Peak in Arizona that I visited. You can see the photos of that and the other telescopes there HERE.

The granulation and the sunspots are really clear, cool! :)
What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

Now, that's what I call a solar scope. You certainly couldn't take a picture from inside the one I used - it has an aperture of 60mm. I'll have to read-up on the Kitt Peak `scope, it's not one I've heard of.

This video puts my effort in context, but then - I don't have a spacecraft at my disposal. My title for the vid would be 'The Forging of the Ring of Power'.

No problem. I took some more pictures a couple days ago which have come out sharper, I've stitched them together to get the full disc of the sun. I'll post it when I've finished processing it.

Fantastic photo.
