Looking for exciting Cello solos

Postby raptornx01 » Wed Mar 20, 2013 7:35 am

Have an idea for a vid that I'm in the very early stages of, may not even complete it but for now I'm starting off by looking for a solo cello piece of music, something not too long (3-5 minutes I guess). Possibly an old piece but doesn't have to be. good quality audio ofcourse and freely available if possible. but a piece that is upbeat, epic, with a nice melody. Even better if it starts soft and gets progressively faster with a great ending (crescendo?).

Who do we know who plays the cello.....?
What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

For what it's worth I would suggest the prelude to Bach's Cello Suite No.1

Hm... you might want to check out Apocalyptica. Some pieces might have solo parts in them. They're not freely available, though. Or rather, they are, but you might get into trouble using them in your own video without permission.

You might find something here:

Lol, I know, but I didn't want to put the burden on one person. Wanted to get the opinions of different people.

Mad, I'll certainly be adding that to the list of considerations. :)

CB, i'll keep them in mind.

Thanks all so far. :)

I've got things to do today, but now you've gone and gotten me distracted.

Check out the arrangements for solo cello by this guy.

This is a piece by Isaac Albeniz called Asturias (Leyenda) which was originally written for piano and is often played on guitar.

But I really need to get on with things, so I'll have a think and maybe post more later. :D

BTW - the Bach no.1 Cello Suite is fab!

Ow my, my... now this is a thread I like

Where shall I start?

By Bach of course. Every Solo suite is great, though my favourite - and probably everyone's, but hey, it's brilliant - is Suite Nr.1's Preludium, which Mad has already posted. If you want something a bit more modern, I'd suggest this version, which is also great I think:

There's also other songs of the PianoGuys worth checking out, but I don't think there's another one with a cello solo like this... maybe their cover of OneRepublic - Secrets, but there's a whole orchestra behind it... So far for PianoGuys.

CB suggested Apocalyptica, and he was right doing so cause they're also great, though not all of their songs are what you are looking for, and if you particulary are looking for a cello SOLO you won't really find it there cause there are 4 (now slightly modified: 3+drums) of them, but here are some more lyrical songs of them (all on my top-list :))

(luuurve this one! :'))

And there's a lot more, almost all their discography is on youtube, so you can listen to them :)

Hokay. Deep breath. :D

If you want something more jolly, there's this guy, I really like him, and there's a bit of a surprise in there ;)

And now let's move to classical music. You're gonna be sorry you asked :P

All right.
I'll just post some video's sort of random as they jump to my mind, cause there's so many of them, but what the others posted are all beautiful, and that's only the start!

This is what I'm playing at the moment <3

So beautiful this one, too... By the way, you'll find that most cello solos are accompanied by piano, so if you really want something that's only cello, you better pick one of the suites.
Rachmaninoff rulez.
Three cello's and piano, also beautiful:

(By the way, I am assuming you want something more...moving? I mean, of course you can play really difficult and hard-core stuff on a cello, but that's not what a cello is best at...at a cello is best at making you cry and want to rip your heart out of pain and then die of happiness. But if you want something more... "quick", I can do that, too :D)

Ahhhh, haven't listened for this one in a while... beautiful!

Somebody stop me! :D Lucky for you all, I have to go now, at least you'll have some music to listen to all evening ;) I'll be back if you need me or have any special wishes to the music :D

This was fun :D
Listen.
