I have to have my pockets sewn up for work. If the stitching comes undone, with or without our knowledge, and we get found out my the management having open pockets, we get a disciplinary. (We're not allowed to wear watches either.)

why no watches??

Apparently they're a security risk; the management seem to think we can hide cash chips under them and smuggle them out to a customer. I think it's also because a watch might scratch the wheel when we lean in to spin the ball.

Is working in a casino stressful Penfold? I imagine things could get tense.

It can be a bit stressful at times with occasional threats of violence and abuse, especially when you report such instances to your manager only to be told "it's part of your job, put up with it". (I believe current employment laws state otherwise but the managers can make life very difficult re rotas, shifts, and holidays, etc. if you kick up too much of a fuss.) It's also not nice seeing people with a gambling addiction throwing their life away and not being able to do anything about it.

On the plus side, it can also be a lot of fun, especially when you get a lively group on a night out and they are overjoyed at just winning a tenner. It's also a job requiring a degree of skill and a high degree of accuracy requiring a nice mixture of both physical and mental dexterity.

I only work 3 days (ten hour shifts) a week on set days which helps. Previously, when I worked full time, my days off would change from week to week which could sometimes lead to working 7 or 8 shifts in a row and not being able to plan a social life since they were prone to changing these at a moments notice.

The pay is pretty good, though the government here tax us on our tips. I take home around £1000 per month which is pretty good for a part-timer. However, once I have my final piece of camera gear (one more lens and a new camera) I intend to find other work. The night shifts are starting to get a tad too much for me now.

Do you recall that I fell down and hit my head in early January?
Since then I've been suffering headaches, light-headedness, have trouble remembering stuff, and can't sit at a computer for more than 10 minutes, as I start to get a blinding headache.
Oh - I'm getting loud 'cricking' noises in my neck when I move it, as well.

I saw a replacement GP on the 22nd February, who asked - after I told him all my symptoms - 'What do you want me to do?'
He then prescribed tablets for my light-headedness, which the pamphlet warns people with heart problems or anyone taking beta blockers to get advice from their GP, before taking (both apply) - and ignored every other problem I have.
I saw a different GP last week, and he thinks all my problems stem from hitting my head, and I could have a 'significant' head injury.
My blood tests have come back as OK, and I am going back to see him next week, to see what happens next.
I saw my optometrist on Friday, and my eyes are OK.

Thus, I'm not going to be on here for very long when I do look in. I hope that someone takes up the challenge to post lots and lots of smilies, on my behalf!
