Soundtrack to the Assassin's Test in "Pyramids"

Postby engineeringsimon » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:22 am

Hi,

I loved the opening scene in "Pyramids" so much that I used it for inspiration in writing some music. I don't have a soundcloud version ready yet, but the Noteflight version is playable.

http://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/5ad5d4fbfdaca21d1e9e1b4a5e4701e0e583b86a

Does this count as "Fan Art" for those who can't draw or paint?

Simon

(Update: Here is a Soundcloud link for just the audio. http://soundcloud.com/engineeringsimon/ ... ns-test-nf )

I certainly agree.... fanart is whatever medium you make it in ... music included.

Thing is......... your site says I have to sign up to hear it........ nope. Maybe you could put it on youtube?

but still.... WELCOME TO THE FORUM !

played fine for me. you have to wait for it to load the instruments but worked well. Very nice. its low grade midi so the instruments sound kinda..... meh, but thats understandable. the composition is well done though. I could hear what you were going for.

and yes, thats definitely fanart. or fan music if you prefer.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh... well see I was far too impatient  and I have never seen music presented on the net like that.

That took ages to download on my computer ... but well worth it!

Well done Simon! Very evocative of Pyamids.

Glad you like it. I haven't put a straight audio version up yet because I want to record a couple of the instruments for real (my wife can play the flute and piccolo). The midi render is from Noteflight, but beats nothing and I don't have an orchestra handy...

lol, not many of us do. its a not a problem. sounded good regardless. I can hear past it to whats really there ;) a very well put together piece of music.

but if you are willing to pony up the dough (or have other ways of procurement) there are some fine programs out there that could benefit from your talent.

makkon06 on youtube is currently one of my favorite new artists and all of his stuff is done completely on his comp. I've posted a few of his pieces before here, but here are a few more.

this one is technically a remix but the original song is impossible to determine without being told (and even then i can't hear it)

some of the programs/plugins (VSTs) he uses

LA Scoring Strings
Drums of War 2
Tonehammer Circle Bells
Evolve Mutations 2
Nexus
Cubase 5
Kontakt 5
Cinebrass
Morphestra
Cineharp
Truestrike 1

They aren't cheap though. If only I had the talent, i'd love to be able to do what you can do.

Yeah, that's probably a few thousand dollars worth of libraries. I can't really justify spending too much. Working with what I have is good enough to learn at moment. It's a bit of a self education hobby.

Here is a Soundcloud link for just the audio. http://soundcloud.com/engineeringsimon/ ... ns-test-nf

I've added some comments to the soundcloud audio illustrating what each part of the music is supposed to represent in the scene.

Great composition. If you can write the music better quality sound can come later.
