All the episodes (including the pilot) are available to watch in full on the QI YouTube site: HERE.
And I know it works in the US because I've watched it online while I've been there.
I know watching on a PC is not the ideal thing to do, but it's certainly an option.
We have a friend in Tucson who is hooked on it.

Hi Suzanne!! **waves**
All region DVD players have become quite cheap in the US. I bought one for ~$90 when Going Postal came out (no WAY was I going to wait for the American version), and it's opened a whole world of British TV and movies to us. Loads of things are actually cheaper on Amazon UK (including shipping) than Amazon US. It did grate on me to be replacing a perfectly good DVD player, but you might consider donating your old one to a school or Craig's Lisiting it. Ours went to the local environmental center.

I have bought multi region DVD players in the US (from Amazon) very cheaply so that I can bring my DVDs with me when I visit Sharlene. I've turned her into a Trekkie.
