Well I had the competition tonight and, although I didn't win, I think I done pretty well with two entries being held back for the final judging (the judges normally select half a dozen or so that catch their eye to give their full consideration to). The scoring was as follows;

#3 The Rock scored 16. I was quite disappointed with this as I hoped it would score higher. ;)

#1 Chiff-Chaff scored 19. I was quite surprised that this scored so well as the shot, itself, was rushed and needed a lot of correction to disguise the 'noise' and a couple of technical errors.

#1 Dewy Doe scored 18. This score was quite amusing since the judge wanted to give it 19 as well but felt he had to decide which was the better between two natural history photos. He didn't know that that meant I was competing against myself. :lol:

I'm not sure of the scores of the other competitors yet (apart from the winner who scored twenty with a fantastic photo) but I was, at the very least, joint second and third. :D

Thank you once again for your help and comments, they really are useful! :D

Well I finally got the last batch of photos done (just some printing and mounting and printing needed still) and will be entering two panels of five photos each with judging a week on Tuesday. They can be found on the links below;

THE UNNOTICED PIER The first five of these are the ones being used and the theme is the everyday parts of the pier that people just don't pay any attention to (hence the title).

BORED JUDGE'S NIGHTMARE - LANDMARKS OF WORTHING This theme being the most commonly occurring subjects in local competition and one that the judges are almost guaranteed to see (although I took a bit of a liberty including the local church). I was going to include High Salvington Windmill but I'm having problems with printing this one. :lol:

If anyone can think of better or snappier titles, feel free to mention it. :D

On Tuesday we have a team competition and I seem to have been selected for the Macro Category almost by default (it appears that no one else in the team has ever taken Macro) but I know my Macro skills are way below the other members so I don't expect a result here. Anyway, the team selected this one for that;

Take care on the beach Penners!

From the BBC...........

"An area of Worthing beach has been cordoned off after small amounts of mercury were found on the shoreline.

Worthing Borough Council said a member of the public found the substance while they were out metal-detecting, on Friday night.

Council staff confirmed that the substance found was mercury.

Signs are in place warning people to keep away from the area. Police, fire and coastguard teams were called to the beach while the mercury was dealt with.

'Specialists called in'
A statement issued by Worthing council said: "Last night, a member of the public whilst metal-detecting on Worthing beach found a very small quantity of what they thought to be mercury on some pebbles.

"Worthing council confirmed late that evening that the substance was mercury."

The local authority said the area would be patrolled by the beach team until Monday, when specialists would be brought in to remove the mercury.

A Sussex Police spokesman said officers were there in a support role.

Solent Coastguard and fire teams also said they were called to the scene for safety reasons while the local authority dealt with the incident.

The council said its beach team, emergency planning team and environmental health team were all involved."

I wondered what happened to Freddie after he died. Obviously, if you're going to bury someone at sea, it needs to be further out and away from Worthing. ;)

Let's hope it's not too serious.
