brilliant! No, it definately lights up and then goes out and then the fun starts. Most odd.

if it is an optical mouse, possibly the LED went bye bye and its flickering is causing the movements when it gets a signal from the sensor again

Meer take the ball out and clean it, look inside there should be little white rollers these get coated with grime clean them with a cotton bud, that is providing it not a n optical one.

@WWD, There is no way to get into the mouse. Easier to get a new one!

Keep in mind, LED mouses flicker if you turn them upside down. see if it flickers if you just lift it a bit to look under it
