The top two positions are the same as they have been for the last three years.

At number 2 is Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending.

And number 1 is Rachmaninoff's - Piano Concerto no.2

Liked Aerith's Theme but Viva Pinata was very derivative, could be anything by anyone it was just a hotch potch of various pieces
One of those? Oh I'm sure I have one somewhere..

I think a lot of fans of computer games have gotten together to pour on the votes for these two. I really didn't think much of Viva Pinata, but enjoyed the Aerith's Theme.

What gets me is this snobbery around classical music. People these days generally except film music as decent orchestral compositions, so why not music written for computer games? I know there are a lot of Classical music fans who, even to this day, think that Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue should not be played on a Classical music station.

somehow missed the last few posted of the previous page. so the viva pinata mention came out of nowhere.

lol now that i'm caught up. its a soundtrack, not really meant to be stand alone. also alot of games with stages have different themes for each stage. hence the hodgepodgeness. still, actually pretty good.

But yeah, people don't want to take video games seriously.

here's the full 33 minute version of that piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyofzTevMEU

or you can go full on emotional.

Huh? Why?

They kind of need to get over themselves. My generation is getting older, and these pieces are going to continue to find their way into places like that. there is too much emotional context involved for people to not have a connection to them. Aerith's theme being a huge product of that. and I know the music for The Walking Dead game will end up the same way for the same reason (i didn't post because they are hard to listen to since I know said context).

I wonder what they think of the fact that more and more major orchestral groups are playing game music.
