Looks like we could be seeing more from the Hitch-hiker's guide series. According to the beeb, Eoin Colfer has been commissioned to write 'And Another Thing...' the next installment in Douglas Adams ever expanding trilogy.

I'm looking forward to see how he does with it.

I heard about this - I think it's a mistake. I read the Hitchhiker books and thought that Addams was losing it towards the end. But as far as I could see the story was finished and doesn't need to be continued.

How would we react if, somewhere along the line, someone else started to write Discworld books?

If Terry had retired (not bloody likely) I'd probably give any new books a shot.

I do agree with the point that you can't write under another author's name. I rushed out to get Sebastian Faulks' Devil May Care in May. It was clearly not Ian Fleming I was reading. However, I still had that same feel as the other James Bond novels. Bond himself was easily recognisable as was Rene Mathis and M.

I think in the case of Discworld, the series oozes with personality and any differences will be more apparent. In the case of H2G2, all the different mediums the series has been presented in have offered something different and I don't think a talented author will have too tough a time fitting into the series.

Much as I love Eoin Colfer, I do agree.

This sort of thing is just fanfic of (hopefully) better quality and less slash!

But oooooh.... I was just about to type how you don't see publishers trying to get someone to ghost write more Dickins novels but then it occured to me that with Terry around, they don't need to!

I read a "sequel" to Pride & Prejudice - it was not good. Characters were behaving completely contrary to the first book, and I felt like I wished I hadn't read it. But I've mostly forgotten it all now. Phew!

lol - Who penned the sequel Dotsie?

I'm tempted to tell my GF there's one and see how she reacts. She loves Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte (That's the author right? I often get mixed up with Emily Bronte - which I think is the book) and the likes. Having said that, she seems taken in by this 'Lost in Austen' that's on just now.

There was a sequel written to John Wyndham's Day of the Triffids in 2001.

It was called Night of the Triffid and written by Simon Clark.

Now much as I love Day of the Triffids, and it's one of my all time favourite books, I'm not at all drawn to read this sequel.

There were three Bronte sisters Jinx. Anne, Emily and Charlotte, all three wrote novels.

I live nearby the parish their Dad had before they all moved to Haworth.

Well I just had a quick look on amazon and there seem to be loads! I can't remember who wrote the one I read, I've successfully blocked it from my memory.

lol - I actually meant to say earlier that I saw the book lying next to my gf's side of the bed last night, and you're right that's the one I was thinking of.

I was guilty of saying on more than one occaision, "Oh yeah, Jane Eyre. She wrote Charlotte Bronte, didn't she?". As you can see I still get confused. What makes it worse is that I'm sure a TV series was out 2 years ago that I had endured and I still get mixed up.

Oh well, that sort of thing's been happening a lot lately.
